Olivia's First Cold

Well, we made it almost 11 months before Olivia got her first illness. It started mild enough around February 16th with some sniffles and a bit less sleep, but progressed into lots of congestion, sneezing, a "junky sounding" cough, an irritated red throat, low-grade fevers, and a lot of irritability. In the end, we visited the pediatrician twice, fearing it was becoming an ear infection or something worse, but thankfully it was just a bad cold that needed to run its course.

Although the sniffles and congestion are still lingering around, finally Olivia is sleeping a bit better and is relatively happy again. She was such a trooper through it all, letting us use the nasal bulb to suction her nose (which made her giggle) and letting us rub Baby Vics Vapor on her back and chest. And all this while she was getting her 9th (yes, 9th) tooth!

The entire time Olivia was sick Mark and I were also sick! Thankfully mom came to rescue to help as our energy level was next to zero. She took over the cooking and laundry and helped with Olivia, especially when she wasn't sleeping well so we could get some rest. We feel so blessed to have family near by who can step in and help when needed.

Tomorrow we hope Olivia is even more on the mend and since Mark and I are also feeling better we plan to visit the nearby park to enjoy the nice spring-like weather!

Here is a picture of Olivia playing in the cabinets while sick (as evident by the red nose). While she was playing outside of the cabinet, she crawled in all by herself!
