Last summer we decided on a bit on a whim to send Olivia to a Parents Morning Out program. We had noticed more and more that she was not comfortable with anyone other than both sets of grandparents watching her and realized she needed more interactions with other children and adults. We also wanted to give the grandmothers some extra free time. So we checked out the preschool program of the church we were visiting and found a two day a week Parents Morning Out program. Almost immediately we could tell we made a good decision. During the orientation I met parent after parent who had sent all their children through the program. The fact that they had loved it so much with their first child and wanted their younger children to be in the same program confirmed to me that it was a good school. And as I watched the slideshow of all the many activities they did, from celebrating holidays to book character dress up days to extracurricular activities to spirit day I felt even more confident in our decision.
Of course it took a few weeks of adjustment, but soon enough Olivia was talking nonstop about her teachers and the boys and girls in her class. We watched Olivia blossom and become more comfortable around other kids and adults. We loved hearing about her day when we picked her up. Her favorite part was always the visits to the library or the art projects. And of course we loved all the art work she brought home.
We couldn’t have asked for more wonderful teachers. They always had a smile on their face and were loving and kind and made Olivia feel at ease. How do we even say thank you for the amount of time, energy, and creativity they put into each and every project throughout the year? We now have so many hand and footprint art projects we will always cherish. The other night I was collecting all the art to scan and make a book and I compared a turkey handprint from November to the Mother’s Day flower handprint in May. WOW what a difference in the size of her hands.
We feel so fortunate to have found the perfect school for Olivia where we know she is in good hands and is growing and being nurtured. While we will enjoy the summer break, we can’t wait to see what is in store for next school year.
