Today you are one!

Dear Gracelyn,

On your first birthday I want you to know just how much joy you have brought to our family.  Not a day goes by that you don’t make us laugh. I remember even when you were first born in the hospital you had the nurses and us laughing because of the faces you were making. And as you have grown I have watched your eyes twinkle as you do something that makes someone else laugh.

Your excitement for the simplest of things can brighten anyone’s mood. You love animals and point at them, giggle, and say “see?” to make sure we are looking.  You know what certain people like you to do, whether it be dance, make an animal sound, or a silly face and you love to watch their reaction.

You are such a snuggly girl. When you were very young you would rub my back or arm.  And even now when you nurse you are rubbing me. You blow the best kisses and give the best hugs. One of my favorite things to do with you is to hold you on my chest as you fall asleep.

At one year old you love animals, especially petting Emma. You love when your sister wants to play with you and you like to hold her dolls and stuffed animals. Doors that open and close will fascinate you for long periods of time.  You also love to dance to music and we think you have a lot of rhythm.

Your blue eyes captivate almost everyone you meet, and your hair has a tint of red when in the sun. When we look at pictures of Olivia at your age we see a close resemblance in looks, but less in personality. You seem to have no fear or reservation in trying something new. You climb up furniture you shouldn’t, get into everything that is off limits, take off baby proofed outlet covers, and break into the cabinets. You definitely keep us on our toes but we wouldn’t have it any other way.

Gracelyn Nicole Smith, we love you to the moon and back. We hope your next year is filled with fun and excitement and good health!

Love, Mama
