Fall is in the Air

The crisp cool weekend air has me even more excited for my favorite season of the year-FALL.
And what better way to kick off the season than create a fall sensory tub. For all you other mommy bloggers you know exactly what I am talking about, but for everyone else, basically a sensory tub is a way of letting your toddlers explore, scoop and poor and have imaginative play.

The tubs are usually theme-based and include items that fit the theme. Spoons, bowls, and rakes let your child dig through the tub. It is best to start with a base like dried grains or beans. We chose pinto and kidney beans. Then add your “confetti” or in our case leaves and leaf cut outs. The other items you choose can be stuff laying around the house or from the nearby Dollar Store. We included gourds, pumpkins, corn and apples. We topped off the box with a scarecrow.
When Olivia first saw her box, she took out the scarecrow and examined it.

Then she started putting stuff in her mouth (oops-I took out all the sparkling pumpkins that looked too much like candy).

Once we got her to understand she couldn't eat the apple and corn she started to play.
She had the most fun putting the beans into a tiny cup and pouring it back into the box. She would play for about five minutes at a time but would always come back and pour the beans and move around the leaves.

These boxes are easy, inexpensive and fun. Check out Maxine's fantastic Halloween themed sensory tub.

That looks like a lot of fun. I am still working on maxine putting beans back in her tub. She will put 5 of the 50 she throws on the floor back in the tub. But she loves playing with it. I am so glad Olivia is enjoying hers. It looks so fun and happy!
