From Baby to Toddler

It is still hard to believe that Olivia has entered the toddler years! We still think of her as a baby, although lately she has not been acting like a baby, but is behaving as a toddler. Here goes some Mommy bragging…..

When we ask Olivia where her nose is, she points to her nose, and she does the same for her eyes, ears, and tongue. She seems to be comprehending more and more everyday. For instance, we were playing on one side of the room and I asked Olivia if I could have some tea (her cousin Maxine gave her a tea set) and she went to the other side of the room and poured me “tea” from her teapot into a cup. You can ask her if she is hungry and if she is, she will do the baby sign language for eat to let you know she wants food!

Olivia also likes to practice learning new words. The other day she was eating apple and I told her the word. She first responded “app” and so I said “apple” again. She tried to pronounce the word again and again but stumbled on the l’s for awhile. But she was determined and after saying the word over and over she figured it out. Later that week we showed her a picture of an apple and asked her what it was and she said “apple”!!!! Last night Olivia sat with Mark for around 15 minutes while he read one of the “My First Words” book and she practiced saying new words. She also would point to pictures and when she saw the dog she said “woof” and when she saw the cat she said “meow.”

We also had Olivia’s 12 month well check up this week and Olivia is weighing in at 19.25 lbs and 28 ¾ inches tall. But the best part of the appointment was when the pediatrician told her that she would be getting the chicken pox vaccine and at that very moment Olivia started shaking her head no and saying “no, no, no.” (Side note, as cute as that was, she still received her vaccines and did very well with them, barely even crying).
