13 months old!

As each month passes by I am left asking, where did the time go? Olivia turns 13 months old today. Each day, she seems to comprehend more and more.

Thanks to her Ma’kulu when you ask Oliva how old she is, she says “one” and sometimes even holds up one finger. We read the “My First 100 Words” book over and over each day and she seems to focus on a new word each time. So last night it was duck and she said the word duck over and over. The day before that she liked saying the word owl. And on Sunday when she saw her cousin Maxine wearing frog pjs she decided pointing to frogs was the focus (and yes, I went out and found her frog pjs since she liked them so much).

Other developments:

The walking is getting faster and faster and we rarely see her crawling anymore. She is also learning to climb, as was evident last week when she was caught crawling out of her crib (thanks to a fast save from Poppy we avoided bumps and bruises).

Olivia is playing a lot more independently and for longer amounts of time. She likes to put her puzzle pieces in her dump truck and ride the truck around before removing all the pieces from the truck. Speaking of puzzles, not only is she taking puzzle pieces out but she is putting them back in the correct place!

Olivia has also become quite the conversationalist over the phone. She tells nana and poppy “hi” and “bye” and “nite, nite” every time they call. She will also answer questions saying “yea” or “no, no, no.”

Eating wise, Olivia still enjoys most everything you give her. I am still preparing the majority of her fruits and veggies using the Beaba foodmaker, but she is eating some of what we eat also during meals, especially grilled chicken, veggies, or salmon. The only food we are finding she doesn’t like is scrambled eggs. If I disguise it in her cheese toast she will eat it, but otherwise she will shake her head no and not open her mouth. Oh well, if that is the only food she doesn’t like, we won’t complain.

Next week Olivia starts music class at a nearby Gymboree. Olivia loves her music, in fact you can’t even walk into her room without turning on her CD player, so I think she will really enjoy the class.
