Working Mom Wednesday

Easy Evening Activities

A challenge for moms working outside the home is that by the time you get home from work, cook and eat dinner, perform the essential chores like unloading the dishwasher, emptying trash, and then preparing lunches, laying out clothes, bath time, and laundry, there is only limited time for “fun” before the bedtime routine begins. And the thought of all the stuff that has to be done in just a few hours in the evening is overwhelming.

While some of the chores must be done, say for instance cooking dinner, others can wait. I found that scheduling a fun craft or activity really keeps me from stressing about all the “to-dos” that are awaiting me each evening.

Take for instance yesterday’s project. Super simple, super fun.

The idea comes from Tinker Lab. Find some shaving cream (sorry Mark hope you don’t need it to shave) and spray it in a baking pan or in our case, on the craft table. I had planned to use a baking pan but mom mentioned that shaving cream is a good cleaner and since Olivia's table was covered in crayon marks perhaps we should take the table outside and use the shaving cream to clean the table. PERFECT! I pulled out some plastic utensils for Olivia to use to swirl the cream around and a paper cup.

Here are the results:

Olivia immediately starting swirling the cream with the utensils.

She kept walking around the table and moving the cream around.

She quickly put some of it on her arms.

And it didn't take too long for Mark to add some cream to Olivia's face.

Even cat Emma joined in on the fun.

Luckily it was bath night so we went straight from this project into the bath.

Next time if we do this project I will add food coloring to the cream.
