Happy 1 ½ Birthday Olivia!

This past week Olivia turned 1 ½ years old. In our mind eighteen months seemed like such a momentous milestone so we celebrated this occasion with ice cream (isn’t the baby cone just the perfect size for a little one).

In the past few weeks Olivia’s vocabulary has grown by leaps and bounds! Some words she added recently:

More and more, Olivia is using three word sentences. For instance, she saw a cupcake and said “I like this.” She also pushes around toys and says, “Come with me” over and over. She will tell you “I love you Mama” and also says this for Dada, Nana, Pop Pop, and Kulu. She also will say “I got you” when playing and will bring you a book and say “Read book Mama.” She will tell you “please” and “thank you,” “you’re welcome” and “I sorry.”

Olivia loves to talk on the phone these days. She takes the phone, puts it up to her ear and just walks all around the house talking, laughing and making hand gestures. She spent around ten minutes talking to her great grandmother the other night.

Another cute thing she does lately is “sing.” For some time she has been mouthing the words of songs but now she sings them. For instance, the other night she was singing “Baa Baa Black Sheep” and it went something like “baa, baa, blla sheep, lalala wool YES, sss YES sss lalala full.”

Olivia still enjoys coloring, drawing with chalk on her easel, writing with a pen, reading books, playing with her Little People house, farm, bus, and plane, and baths! We are especially proud that Olivia will now lay her head back in the water (for the longest time she wouldn’t let us lean her back to wash her hair) and she will also lay on her stomach and kick in the water and put her face in the water to blow bubbles.

Personally 18 months is a big deal to me because we made our breastfeeding goal-anything after this point is a bonus, but I am so happy we made it this far and we were able to share in such a special experience together.

Considering how much Olivia has changed in the last six months I can only imagine what the next six months will bring. All too soon we will be celebrating another birthday!
